ArtXtra
ArtXtra is a small private Art School offering art and pottery classes and
workshops for adults and children. It was approved as an AQA exam
centre for GCSE and A-Level Art and Design in 2003. Many art materials and
techniques are on offer including ceramics, textiles, screen printing,
sculpture, drawing and painting.
Set
in 'Wessex Barn', a beautiful Grade 2 listed building which retains many
features from its resourceful past as a convent dormitory, a farmhouse, a
coaching inn and a community of 5 workers cottages, artXtra has
been developing as a small art centre since 1998. Three linked studios
provide plenty of space and are well lit, warm and welcoming. A recent barn
conversion provides occasional exhibition space.
The large garden
is set on different levels and provides plenty of inspirational views, as well
as a teeming pond and a terrace for coffee. During Summer Art Days the children
play table tennis and badminton .

Jane Burden
Jane Burden, who runs ArtXtra, is an exhibiting artist and an enthusiastic
art teacher. Her PGCE in creative arts from Cambridge University and years of
working with adults and children means that Jane is always encouraging
and will give advise about materials and techniques whenever necessary.
The atmosphere at artXtra is always friendly and relaxed, with music, laughter and coffee.
This is what some ArtXtra students have said:
'I cannot thank Jane enough for unlocking my creativity'.
'Coming to Art Xtra stimulates ideas, and has helped me be more confident in
my work. I feel that my art is becoming more bold and free.
’‘I really like coming to ArtXtra, because you can express what ever you want
to, and nobody thinks you are mad!’
Jane Burden is a practicing artist currently working with
porcelain to record objects and artifacts from historic buildings and memories.
